This Isn’t the Dentistry You Grew Up With: How Technology Is Changing Your Dental Visit
From 3D dental scanning and printing to same-day crowns, modern dental technology is making visits more precise, efficient and comfortable.
If your idea of a dental impression still involves a tray full of gooey material and trying very hard not to gag, we have good news.
Dentistry has changed.
At Bauer Dentistry in South Tampa, technology isn’t something we add simply because it’s new. We invest in technology that can improve the patient experience, give our doctors better information and make certain treatments more efficient.
Goodbye, Gooey Impressions
Our 3M digital scanner creates a 3D image of your mouth, eliminating the need for traditional impressions in these digital workflows.
That scan gives our doctors a detailed digital model that can become the starting point for designing restorations and custom dental appliances.
Yes, We Can 3D Print at the Dentist
This is one of Dr. Marnie Bauer’s favorite pieces of technology in the office.
Our SprintRay 3D printer allows our doctors to scan, design and create custom dental products including night guards, dentures, wax-up models, surgical guides and more right here in the office.
Because we’re able to handle these workflows in-house, we can reduce the amount of time some cases spend traveling back and forth to an outside lab.
Your Crown May Be Made Here, Too
Bauer Dentistry also uses a Glidewell in-office milling machine.
Using your unique digital mouth scan, our doctors can digitally design certain crowns and mill them right in the office. For appropriate cases, that means same-day crown placement instead of the traditional process requiring multiple appointments.
Technology Helps Us See More, Too
Some of the most valuable technology isn’t about making anything. It’s about seeing more.
Our intraoral cameras capture detailed images inside the mouth and can help identify fractures that may be difficult to see with the naked eye. Digital radiography allows images to be viewed immediately, while our VELscope is incorporated into patient exams.
The Technology Is Cool. The “Why” Matters More.
We love new dental technology. But ultimately, the equipment isn’t the point.
The patient is.
Better information. Greater precision. Fewer uncomfortable impressions. Less waiting when possible. And a dental experience that looks very different from the one many of us remember growing up.
This isn’t the dentistry you grew up with. And we think that’s a very good thing.
