Alleviate Your TMJ Pain With Botox®

Botox® For TMJ – An Alternative Path to Relief

Are you tired of living with the debilitating pain of TMJ disorders (TMDs)? Have you tried countless conservative treatments with little to no relief? If so, it might be time to consider an alternative path to alleviating your TMJ pain: Botox®.

TMJ Disorders can wreak havoc on your daily life, causing jaw pain, headaches, earaches, and a myriad of other symptoms. While traditional treatments such as stress reduction techniques, jaw exercises, and over-the-counter medications can offer some relief for mild cases, they often fall short for those with more severe symptoms. If left untreated, TMDs can progress, leading to hypermobility, limited jaw movement, and even dental complications like flattened teeth.

Botox-For-TMJ
Alleviate Your TMJ Symptoms!

Botox® works by targeting the masseter muscle, the primary muscle responsible for controlling jaw movement. When injected into the masseter muscle, Botox® temporarily paralyzes the muscle, preventing it from contracting excessively. This relaxation of the muscle helps reduce jaw tension and alleviates symptoms such as jaw clenching and teeth grinding, commonly associated with TMJ disorders.

Benefits of Botox® for TMJ

  1. Non-Invasive: Unlike surgical interventions, Botox® injections are minimally invasive and typically require no downtime, allowing individuals to resume their normal activities shortly after treatment.
  2. Targeted Relief: Botox® targets the specific muscles involved in jaw movement, providing localized relief where it’s needed most.
  3. Long-lasting Results: While the effects of Botox® for TMJ are not permanent, many individuals experience significant relief for several months following treatment, with results typically lasting three to six months.
  4. Improved Quality of Life: By reducing pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders, Botox® injections can significantly improve quality of life, allowing individuals to eat, speak, and engage in daily activities more comfortably.

In addition to Botox®, another alternative treatment for TMJ worth considering is a night guard. Night guards are custom-made oral appliances worn during sleep to prevent teeth grinding and clenching, two common contributors to TMJ pain. When combined with therapeutic injections, night guards can provide comprehensive relief for TMJ sufferers, addressing both the muscular and dental aspects of the condition.

If you’re struggling to find relief from your TMJ symptoms through traditional methods, Botox® injections may offer a promising alternative. With its ability to target the root cause of TMJ pain and provide targeted relief, Botox® has emerged as a valuable tool in the management of TMJ disorders.

Veneers In South Tampa – Revitalizing Your Smile

A radiant smile is a universal symbol of confidence and vitality. Your smile speaks volumes about your personality and passion. However, factors like genetics, accidents, or lifestyle choices can affect the appearance of our teeth, leading to self-consciousness and diminished self-esteem.

Fortunately, modern day dentistry offers a solution to restore and enhance smiles, and that is with Veneers. Veneers offer a quick and effective way to rejuvenate and transform a smile, allowing one to achieve the smile of their dreams.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers-South-Tampa-Cosmetic-Dentist
Porcelain Veneers

Dental Veneers are ultra-thin custom-made shells that are meticulously crafted by your dentist to cover the front surface of teeth. They are typically made from porcelain or composite resin and are designed to mimic the natural appearance of teeth. They offer a realistic and pleasing solution for a variety of dental concerns such as chipped or stained teeth, crooked or damaged teeth, or smaller than average teeth.

Why Choose Veneers for Smile Rejuvenation?

  1. Aesthetic Appeal: Veneers are exceptional for their ability to cosmetically enhance a smile. Whether you have stained, discolored, or misaligned teeth, veneers provide a seamless and natural-looking solution. They are crafted to mimic the translucency and texture of natural teeth, allowing them to blend seamlessly with existing teeth.
  2. Versatility: Unlike some dental procedures that require multiple visits and a considerable amount of time, veneers offer a quick turn-around time. In just a couple of appointments, patients can achieve a rejuvenated smile. Veneers can address multiple cosmetic concerns in a single treatment making them a popular choice for those with busy schedules.
  3. Durability and Longevity: While veneers are incredibly thin, they offer a long-lasting result. Made from materials like porcelain or composite resin, veneers can withstand daily wear and tear, including biting and chewing, and with proper care can last up to 10-15 years.
  4. Minimal Invasive Procedure: Unlike orthodontics or crowns, veneers offer a minimally invasive approach to smile rejuvenation. The process typically involves minimal tooth preparation. In most cases, a small amount of enamel is removed, preserving majority of the natural tooth structure.
  5. Boost In Confidence: The most significant benefit veneers, is the impact they can have on your confidence and self-esteem. Veneers can empower you to feel more comfortable with your smile, allowing you to enjoy every-day interactions.

Veneers offer an impactful transformation to not only your smile, but your confidence and self-esteem. They offer an exceptional aesthetic appeal, versatility and durability, and minimally invasive preparation. Whether you are looking to address minor concerns or completely rejuvenate your smile, veneers can help you achieve the radiant, natural looking smile you dreamed of.

Choosing Your Cosmetic Dentist

Choosing a cosmetic dentist is one of the most critical decisions you can make. You are choosing a professional who will help change your appearance by changing the look of your teeth and your smile. Some of the procedures you will undergo are not reversible. You want to ensure your comfort and confidence with the cosmetic dentist you choose.

Referrals

Your general dentist should be able to recommend the best cosmetic dentist for you. He or she knows the current status of your teeth, gums, and your other related dental conditions. Your friends or relatives who might have undergone a smile makeover could also recommend their doctors.

Pre-Consultation

Before you set up a consultation appointment with your prospective cosmetic dentist, do your investigation prior to your appointment. Is your dentist skilled in providing full mouth reconstruction, or does he or she refers patients to other specialists for other treatments? How extensive is the dental practice? Are you impressed by the before-and-after photos of previous patients? Does the practice have imaging technology and other aids when recommending procedure options? Are other modern dental technologies (lasers, caries detection devices, CAD/CAM restoration) used in the dental practice?

Consultation

During your consultation with your cosmetic dentist, discuss what you like and do not like about your smile. This is the one time you and your cosmetic dentist will establish realistic expectations about your dental treatment. You may be referred to smile design books with before-and-after photos of cosmetic dental procedures. There would also be a review of different tooth shapes and sizes to see what fits and appeals to you. Cosmetic dentists use computer monitors so both of you can review your smile tooth by tooth. This is also for your understanding on what can be changed and how. Results, of course, may vary depending on the skills of your chosen dentist. Since you have been apprised of his or her skills beforehand, your expectations will not be much at variance with the outcome.

Records

Your dental records are also very important during consultations with your cosmetic dentist. They are important in developing a precise cosmetic dental treatment plan unique to your case and needs. These would typically include the comprehensive intra-oral examination (including photos and X-rays), and teeth impressions.

Diagnosis and treatment plans

If a diagnosis and treatment plan is given during consultation with your cosmetic dentist, make sure you understand it completely, including any viable treatment alternatives. Also, be sure you are completely comfortable with the thoroughness of the presented details given. This way, you can make an educated decision on the dental treatment you will pursue.

Costs

Finally, discuss the payment or financing options. (This might be undertaken with the dentist’s office manager.) This is important because it can help you manage the cost of your cosmetic dentistry treatment. Cosmetic dental treatments are not typically covered by dental insurance. Dental clinics of some cosmetic dentists sometimes offer in-house payment options.

What is Dental Bonding?

When you have a broken, chipped, or stained tooth, then worry no more! There is a procedure that will help you make your broken, chipped or stained tooth look like a new tooth again. It’s called dental bonding, and many people with problems such as yours now have the most amazing smiles after they had it done. Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure wherein a composite material which, is tooth-colored, is applied to the damaged tooth, which is then formed into the proper shape, hardened, and lastly, polished. It is called dental bonding because the materials used are bonded to the tooth. It is excellent for small cosmetic dentistry work, like fixing chipped or broken tooth, or stained tooth since the material used is tooth-colored, and thus less obvious than silver fillings.

What Does Dental Bonding Involve?

First, phosphoric acid will be gently applied to the surface of the damaged tooth, which will eventually roughen the surface to assist the bonding material to stay in the right place. After applying phosphoric acid, the bonding material will then be applied on the damaged tooth surface, formed into the proper shape. The bonding material will then be hardened and set with the use of a special light. Lastly, the composite material is polished for a smooth finish.

Pros and Cons

Just like all of the procedures and methods, Dental bonding also has its advantages and disadvantages. For one, let’s talk about the costs. Compared to other dental procedure that does the same thing, it is relatively less expensive. Also, the procedure is quite speedy. It only requires one session. The entire procedure per tooth can be done in only 30 to 60 minutes. The quick turnaround completion can be had with great ease. Compared to crowns and veneers, dental bonding is less painful, since it doesn’t focus much on enamel removal. The procedure doesn’t even require anaesthesia, except if the procedure’s goal is to fill a decayed tooth.

On the other hand, there are downsides that you must know ahead. For one, the bonding material can become stained. Unlike the expensive crowns and veneers, dental bonding material is prone to discoloration over time. Some of the causes of dental material discoloration are cigarette smoke, coffee, red wine and tea; so it is advised to avoid them for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. Understandably, materials used in dental bonding aren’t as durable and long-lasting compared to the expensive crown and veneer procedures. The dental material can easily break if not taken care of properly.

When Dental Bonding is a Good Choice

If a dental problem such as broken or chipped tooth, gap between your teeth or stained tooth is just a small issue to you, then dental bonding may be the right choice. Dental bonding can also be performed to reshape or recontour teeth, and can be used as white filling for small cavities. However, if you have large cavities and want to have white set of teeth, then the veneers and bleaching procedure must be done.

Maintenance of Dental Bonding

Since dental bonding material is prone to braking or staining compared to crown on veneer procedures, it is very important to take good care of the tooth or teeth after the procedure. One must follow the dentists’ tips that would help keep the teeth and overall oral health condition in good state. For one, avoid or minimize intake of coffee, tea, or red wine because it can cause discoloration of the dental material used. Smokers should quit as well because smoking can also cause discoloration and can cause gum diseases, and even oral cancer.  Avoid biting nails and chewing hard objects or food to avoid breakage of dental bonding material. Most importantly, call or visit your dentist when you notice something unusual when you eat, or when biting.

Teeth Whitening

Out of all the dental procedures in cosmetic dentistry being performed, teeth whitening ranks the highest. Whatever the reason, patients have been known to regain their confidence and self-esteem right after the whitening process.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is simply a process that eliminates discoloration and stains on the teeth. The procedure also brightens the natural pigmentation of the teeth. The nature of the stains as well as the severity of the discoloration determines the degree of improvement after the treatment.

When your teeth become brown or yellow due to coffee, tea or smoking, stains will generally lighten four to five shades. Gray teeth caused by natural pigmentation or use of antibiotics will lighten two to three shades. Whatever the outcome, your teeth are noticeably brighter after teeth whitening. While there may be a number of over-the-counter teeth whiteners, only a dental professional can recommend the most effective teeth whiteners.

What are the techniques?

Today, there are two effective whitening techniques available – the in-office laser teeth whitening and at-home teeth whitening with custom-fit trays. These two techniques should be done under your dentist’s supervision to ensure safety.

Laser teeth whitening

The In-office teeth whitening is done with bleaching gel and laser light. This is a good method for teeth whitening for sensitive teeth and this process should be closely monitored by a Tampa cosmetic dentist. The process begins when the teeth are carefully isolated from the lips and gums. Next, a bleaching gel is applied to the teeth. A laser is used with the gel in order to amplify the teeth whitening process.

Are there teeth whitening methods that can be done at home?

For at-home teeth whitening, your South Tampa cosmetic dentist can take imprints of your teeth and then make custom-fitted trays for your use to complete your teeth whitening process. There are also a number of teeth bleaching kits available over the counter at drugstores. If instructions are followed to the letter, most of them are safe by general standards.

Whitening systems

Teeth whitening systems use in-office applications of gel to the teeth. Next, light is applied in order to activate the gel.

There are also a number of teeth whitening systems in the market including a variety of whitening toothpastes, paint-on whitening products and whitening strips.

Side effects

There are a number of whitening materials that have some side effects. The gel in many whitening methods makes the teeth sensitive to hot and cold foods, drinks and air temporarily. The trays used to bleach teeth can also cause sensitivity to the gums.

Some over the counter whitening products may wear down the teeth’s enamel if used too zealously. For this reason, it is recommended to undergo teeth whitening treatments under the supervision of a South Tampa cosmetic dentist.

Costs

Teeth whitening costs varies according to the type of methods – at home or in-office. In-office services cost from $100 to $800 and at-home bleaching trays custom-fitted by a dentist cost from $300 to $2,000.

The Art of Smile Design and Smile Makeovers by a South Tampa Cosmetic Dentist

In cosmetic dentistry, a smile makeover is the process of improving the appearance of the smile by way of one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures. These can include such processes as dental veneers, composite bonding, dental implants, teeth whitening and more.

From an aesthetic point of view, a good cosmetic dentist is someone who is very different from a regular dentist. He is someone with a passion for aesthetics and creating beautiful smiles though the practice of his science-based profession.

Considerations

A South Tampa FL cosmetic dentist about to embark on a smile makeover to a patient takes into consideration several factors that constitute a person’s total smile: facial appearance, skin tone, hair color, teeth (color, width, length, and shape), gum tissue, and lips.

Your dentist will also ask you questions like “What is it you like or dislike about your smile or teeth?” There is also a list of things your dentist will discuss with you  regarding your smile makeover.

Tooth color

It is an important consideration because bright, white teeth framed in a well-shaped smile projects a youthful appearance. Dark or discolored teeth suggest an aged mouth.

Color is the top consideration when evaluating procedures and materials including porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, implants and composite bonding. Your cosmetic dentist will recommend the right shades in tandem with your facial skin tones and hair shadings.

Shapes, spaces, alignments

Crooked teeth, overlapping teeth, gaps in-between teeth and other imperfections are carefully evaluated for corrective procedures. In extreme cases, they are corrected through orthodontics or Invisalign, and improved with veneers.

Missing teeth, uneven or cracked teeth are noted. Missing teeth are replaced with implants, bridges or partial dentures. Cracked and uneven teeth are bonded.

Length, proportions, textures

The length of the teeth affects the overall facial appearance. Shapely, long square teeth on a round face can provide a slimming effect.

A pleasing smile is one where the two central front teeth are dominant and have a width-to-length ratio of 4:5. This proportion is the yardstick of the length and width of all the other teeth.

Your cosmetic dentist can characterize your crowns and veneers to create a more feminine or a more masculine appearance, matching the look and feel of the other natural teeth.

Teeth life

Cosmetic dentistry procedures need regular oral hygiene care and require maintenance over time. Teeth whitening must be repeated on occasion to maintain brightness. Crowns and veneers may break off and need replacements.

The ceramist, lab technician and the materials chosen by your dentist also affect the longevity of your smile makeover.

As one dentist-writer puts it, cosmetic dentistry is a “self-esteem service”. If the results fail to impress the patient, the treatment is a failure. So you will be pleased, you need to have your own inputs, too, in the artistic planning of your smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry: Fixing Gaps Between Teeth

Cosmetic Dentistry: Do you have gaps between your teeth?

Who would not like to have a brilliant set of white, sparkling, well formed, teeth? A smile is a great way to break the silence or just say ‘hello’. In today’s fast paced life, where corporate culture has spread its wings to almost all spheres of life, having a nice smile is an important virtue.

A persons teeth can suffer from many problems including deformation, yellowness, cavities and tooth decay. Improper oral hygiene, accidents, calcium deficiency and bad eating habits are foremost responsible for most of the oral problems. While talking to a person, ones teeth are one of the first things to be noticed.

Today, there are a number of cosmetic options available in the market so you can have that perfect smile. Modern cosmetic dentistry can help whiten your teeth, fill gaps and fix broken or crooked teeth. We will look at some of the available cosmetic dentistry options available for fixing gaps between teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Many people suffer from physical deformities in their tooth surface. Porcelain veneers are used in cosmetic dentistry to fix this problem. In cosmetic dentistry, porcelain veneers are used to give the face of the tooth, a new surface so that it’s proper natural structuring or cosmetic dental restructuring can be aided. One of the main uses of a Porcelain veneer is to give the desired shape and size to a natural tooth. Veneers are mainly used to fix gaps and crooked teeth.

Bonding

Probably the most common choices in cosmetic dentistry for fixing dental problems, bonding is used to treat gaps between teeth, stains due to calcium deposits, crooked tooth or any physical damage done to the tooth. The procedure includes placing a composite resin based filling over the teeth for fixing physical tooth related damages. To get the required shape, a thin layer of hard but malleable plastic like material is applied under a bonding material which bonds it to the tooth. The applied material is then carved to get the desired shape. The process is finished by drying the material in high-intensity light to make it hard. After polishing, the tooth gets a natural look and will last for next 7-11 years approximately.

Braces / Invisalign

These are one of the most common options for removing gaps in-between the teeth.

Different levels of gaps require different procedures. A large gap in teeth may not be not suitable to be fixed by bonding while a small gap can. Cosmetic dentistry is an investment so discuss your options with your cosmetic dentist so you can make the choice that is right for you.
